Ever since he was young, Dr. Joe knew that he was going to be a dentist. His father, Joe Sr., began Eckman Family Dentistry in 1970 after returning to Chester County from the Philippines after serving as a dentist in the Navy. The practice grew from a one-chair office located in Joe Sr.'s home to a carriage house adjacent to the home, and eventually to its current home in Willowdale.
Joe Jr. graduated from Kennett High School in 1996, and studied music and trumpet performance at Messiah College, graduating in 2000. A 2004 graduate of Temple University School of Dentistry, Dr. Joe immediately joined the practice, working alongside his father. In 2006, a second location was built in the Jennersville/West Grove area, and Joe Jr. was put in charge of fostering its growth. It wasn't long before the satellite location was as busy and successful as the original.
In 2013, Dr. Joe Sr. passed away from melanoma, and Joe Jr. began to work at both locations again. He can be seen in the Jennersville office on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and in the Unionville office on Thursdays. He hopes to continue his father's legacy of providing quality, affordable dentistry in a timely, common-sense fashion for many years to come.
Joe has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, since 2001. She is originally from East Hampton, NY, and the family spends a good deal of time back on Long Island during the summer months. They have three children (Daisy b. 2002, Tucker b. 2005, and Lucy b. 2006) and a cock-a-poo named Sammy.
When not in the office, Joe can be found doing something with music. He plays the trumpet and volunteers his time teaching beginning students at West Fallowfield Christian School. He enjoys writing and arranging music for the local high school choir programs (Unionville and Avon Grove) and plays guitar and keyboard for the worship team at Willowdale Chapel. He also enjoys being on the audience side, especially when his wife and kids are performing, and he plays roller hockey in a men's league.
